Another great article by Aby - but does our attention "inside the inner body" always have to be so bodily, meaning my attention does seem very often "within me" but I've never had luck with focusing on the body - I can't claim my inner attention is so much focused on my true Being but rather I guess it refocuses on what I learned thru Advaita - just simply, mildly trying to refocus on silence or whatever aspect I honestly recognized as god in my path, and in the process there is much ejection/expeling of what I assume are samskaras which I had taken to be back tracking or stagnation but I now take to be part of the process or releasing them till they are hopefully over with.
Mental introversion here refers to a deep inward focus, where your attention shifts away from the external world and turns toward your inner self. As this deepens, your identity with the thinking mind weakens, and you begin to experience reality in a different way—less as an individual "doer" and more as a witness or presence.
Now this presence you can activate inside you by hearing the silence outside too. Or feeling the space outside that activates stillness in you. You are right the stillness outside is God..
You are NOT putting attention on body but inner spaciousness. ( your inner body is 99.9% space)
But usually, even if you are watching beautiful nature outside, after five minutes or so, your mind will taken over by thoughts because your attention is outside.
Experiment it for yourself for five minutes.
The best way is take one conscious breath and keep your minimum 50% attention inward in inner silence that is spaciousness within inner body. And then you are properly “established” in your God essence to function in the world. You can increase your attention to 100% inward by practice. And that is total surrender.
One of the greatest sage ramana maharshi said that whole spirituality and realising God can be sum up in one statement. ==> Keep your mind inward and abide in Self ( Inner Being)
Hi Aby, I am going to put the iceberg and the tree ideas into practice. I'm currently working on keeping my focus on my inner being in the heart area. Thanks for sharing!
