Understanding The Dark Night of The Soul
The Dark Night of the Soul is a profound illusion that emerges as the mind begins to dissolve during spiritual awakening.
Why?
Because throughout your life, you've relied on your mind and thoughts as the core of your existence. All your identities and perceptions depend upon your conditioned mind. Your mind is the central lens through which you've seen and experienced the world.
So, during the Dark Night of the Soul, when the mind is dissolving, it can feel as though your very existence is coming to an END, but this is merely the ego’s fear of losing control, not the end of who you truly are.
In the absolute spiritual sense, the mind is non-existent. In our relative experience within the material world, the mind exists and is comprised of the five senses and thoughts, similar to how we describe the unmoving sun as rising or setting, even though it is the Earth that is orbiting.
Remember, you are not your mind and body. You are not your thoughts, emotions, or experiences. You ARE the awareness who observes them.
The Dark Night of the Soul is a complete illusion, but it feels very real.

Why is The Dark Night of The Soul Such a Painful Process?
After a spiritual awakening, you might encounter The Dark Night of the Soul. It is a long, depressing, and very dark experience that can continue for days, months, or even years.
If you’re experiencing the Dark Night of the Soul, you are feeling a sense of being lost. Your heart is in anxiety as if your world, with its known habits and conditioning, is coming to an End. As explained before, after a spiritual awakening, your conditioned mind pattern is dying. While dying, your mind is making you feel miserable by re-identifying yourself with its old dysfunctional patterns.
I love this quote from Spiritual Teacher Eckhart Tolle about feeling Alienated from the world.
Feeling Alienated From the World
I have also encountered the Dark Night of the Soul, a suffering phase where the world of the mind dissolves. The meanings your mind once attached to career, relationships, ambition, and achievements lose their significance. You may find yourself in a state of deep emptiness, which can feel similar to what is often termed depression. This is not a personal failure but a transition into a deeper realization of your true self beyond the constructs of the mind
Nothing makes sense to you anymore. Sometimes, the Dark Night of the Soul is triggered by some external event. Death of Loved ones. Loss of business, possessions, relationships, or anything your ego has strongly identified with. So that results in a dark place.
Rediscovering New Purpose After Awakening
There is the possibility that you emerge out of that into a transformed state of consciousness. Life has meaning again, but it’s no longer a mind-made meaning that you can necessarily explain. Now, your life is sustained by the being and not the ego. And while your ego is dying, it will make every last attempt to make you identify with itself. It will make you feel miserable by instilling fear in you—fear of no longer being run by the egoic mind.
After the Dark Night of the Soul, people awaken into something more profound, which is no longer based on concepts in their minds. A deeper sense of purpose or connectedness with a greater life is no longer dependent on explanations or anything conceptual.
The dark night of the soul isn't just about suffering. It’s actually part of a process of growth. Just like a seed must be buried in the dark soil before it can sprout into a plant, this difficult time is seen as necessary for a person to come out stronger, more aware, and more connected to who they really are deep inside. After the dark night, many people experience a sense of renewal, purpose, and inner peace, much like emerging into the light after being in darkness for a while.
Awakening to the Radiance of Your True Self
The dark night of the soul is a kind of death that you die. It’s a kind of re-birth. What dies is the egoic sense of self. Of course, death is always painful, but nothing real has died there – only an illusory egoic identity.
Some people who’ve gone through this transformation probably realized that they had to go through this phase to bring about a spiritual awakening. Often, it is part of the awakening process, the death of the old self and the birth of the true self.
After the Dark Night of the Soul, Your Being shines like a sun, and deep down, you will start to feel its presence.
While a spiritual awakening is the process of rebirth of everything you are! The Dark Night of the Soul is the process of dying of everything you are not!
