One of the participants in a recent 1-on-1 counseling session asked a profound question.
His mother had passed away a few months ago. She fell, hit her head on the escalator in the train station, and died. But her heart kept beating for a while—perhaps for twenty minutes or so. The doctors said she died immediately when her brain stopped working, yet he wondered:
When did she transition exactly?
Was it when her brain ceased functioning?
Difference Between Birth & Death
He was trying to understand the difference between birth and death—between the localized, separate, limited form of consciousness as an individual and the universal consciousness that people traditionally called God or Life.
When does this universal consciousness contract into a human form in the womb? And when does it expand again upon death?
So he asked: What is the difference between the experience of taking birth as a person and dying?
Let’s explore this more deeply now, even though human language can be limiting in conveying this truth…
